What makes NGI special is both our vision and mission.
Our vision is to create branded insurance solutions that enable consumers to easily apply and obtain “right-fit” insurance solutions that improve their lives by providing greater security and peace of mind. We seek to influence how the next generation of insurance consumers purchase insurance and believe this has the potential to reshape the entire industry.
At the same time, NGI uniques mission is to serve the education markets by “Protecting the Investment in Education.” No other organization does more to fulfill this mission and our talented team is dedicated to serving the schools, students and families that depend on our effort.
Entering 2011, we set the following goals for the business:
- Continue to grow insight and knowledge regarding life-stage risks
- Secure large-scale distribution for our higher education insurance products
- Broaden our product offerings and capacity to fulfill the needs of the consumers we serve including students, parents and young adults
- Grow our talented team to meet future business demands
Looking back at 2011, we’re happy with what we achieved and feel well-positioned for another big year in 2012. Here’s how the year played out:
New Needs and Knowledge
Our approach to building our knowledge-base is grounded in two elements, the first being primary research. In the case of the “2011 Campus Housing Risk Mitigation Study,” NGI commissioned research focusing on the risks facing on-campus students, which indicated that more than 28,000 burglaries and 3,800 fires occur annually on campus. We also seek to compile our knowledge and share it with organizations who share our mission, including ACHA and College Parents of America.
Sallie Mae & Sallie Mae Insurance Services
Our relationship with Sallie Mae allowed us to rapidly increase our distribution for NGI’s higher education insurance products. The two businesses jointly launched Sallie Mae Insurance Services to market NGI’s relevant, life-stage insurance products to Sallie Mae’s 24M+ customers. The first major initiative for NGI and Sallie Mae was the embedding of NGI’s tuition refund insurance product in Sallie Mae’s Smart Option loans disbursed during the Fall of 2011. In so doing, we helped thousands of students and families better protect their education investment.
New Websites and Relaunches
Technology is a core focus at NGI, so our technology and consumer marketing teams were busy in 2011, launching and improving many of our websites. Most notably, our team launched studenthealthplan.com to support NGI’s growing Student Health Plan product.
Our once (very) small team has grown to 40 through some terrific hires across all areas of the business, including sales, finance, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re particularly excited to have new members of our management team, like SVP, Sales, Denny Wentworth and SVP, Finance, Chris Meinerz, join NGI. Happily, our team has meshed quickly and easily, thanks to events like our company offsite in Phoenix this month.
In order to accommodate our expanding ranks, we quickly realized the need for additional space. NGI is co-headquartered in Phoenix and Boston, so this required some significant changes in both of our locations. In Boston, we moved to a larger space in the city’s Fort Point Channel neighborhood and in Phoenix, we expanded our Camelback office to accommodate our growing sales and finance teams.
To all of our customers, business partners, underwriters, brokers, and friends, we sincerely thank you for your support. Any success we’ve had in 2011 is owed to you and to the hard work of our team.
We wish you a happy, healthy, and fruitful New Year!
